What would the City of Light be without its department stores? These temples of shopping, invented in France in the 19th century, are imitated worldwide, from New York to Tokyo. In 1852, Monsieur Bourcicaut bought the Bon Marché shop located on the Left Bank, and revolutionised the world of shopping. Other department stores then started to appear, like the Printemps, the Samaritaine, the Galeries Lafayettes. Fashion, beauty, homeware, leisure... Heaven for shopaholics !
